Alocasia beginda, or Dragon Scale Alocasia, is straight out of a fairy tale with its deeply textured shimmering silver-green foliage reminiscent of dragon scales. This variety is surprisingly less fussy than most alocasia.
Care: Place in a location with bright indirect light to dappled shade. Plant in an airy, chunky mix that features sphagnum moss, orchid bark, perlite, and cocoa coir. Avoid overwatering by feeling the top few inches of soil and soak once dry, do not allow periods of drought. High humidity is recommended, this plant does well in terrarium environments. Avoid repotting until necessary, this plant does not like being disturbed, and enjoys tight quarters. Alocasia have a habit of going dormant when conditions are not favorable, during this time reduce watering allowing the soil to dry and ensure moderate light and temperature levels to encourage new growth. Fertilize sparingly, once every six weeks with a diluted liquid fertilizer from spring to early fall.
