Astilbe chinensis, commonly called Chinese Astilbe is a clump-forming perennial of fern-like, sharply-toothed foliage. Flower stalks with dense tiny flower panicles are held above the basal foliage July thru August. Short varieties, like 'Pumila', make an excellent ground cover. Water regularly to keep foliage attractive during growing season, though moderately drought tolerant, this plant prefers moist soil.
