Beta vulgaris, also known as Detroit Dark Red Beet, is a historic variety great for fresh eating and canning alike. This prolific producer has blood red 3" roots that store well after harvesting. Sow seeds 1/5" deep and 2" apart outdoors in a sunny location as soon as spring soil has warmed, thinning to 4-6" apart after germination.
