Berberis thunbergii, commonly known as Japanese Barberry, is an spiny deciduous shrub with rounded, ovate leaves that intensify during fall. 'Concord' has a globe shaped habit with maroon-purple foliage that brightens red in fall, and seldom produces seeds. Plant in average, well-draining soil in a sunny location. Barberry will tolerate drought, but do not fair well in soggy or wet soil.
