Brassica oleracea, commonly called Ole Timey Blue Collards, has an upright habit of large blue-green veined purple foliage with kale-like flavor and health benefits. You can also direct sow seeds outdoors about 3 months before fall frost, or start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last spring frost. Transplant outdoors 24" apart just before the last frost in a sunny location. Collards are most flavorful and tender after a frost and can continue harvest after snow fall.
