Hakonechloa macra, commonly called Golden Japanese Forest Grass, is a graceful spreading, clumping grass that makes for an excellent ground cover. Slender stems hold arching golden yellow leaves with green striping, tinting pink in the fall. Best grown in humus rich, consistently moist, well-draining soil in a location with dappled light. Trim to the ground in late winter or early spring before new shoots emerge.
