Iris ensata, commonly called Japanese Water Iris, is a rhizomatous perennial that grows in slowly expanding clumps. Sword-shaped foliage gives way to stems full of interesting flowers. This plant grows well sunny locations with medium to wet soils, and even thrives in standing water. When planting in water keep in mind they do not like boggy conditions in winter, so plant in sunken pots that can be moved to a dryer location during the cold season.
