This sun loving succulent plant that is native to, you guessed it...Madagascar! It prefers a sunny south facing window, and plenty of warmth. Unlike most, this plant does its photosynthesizing through its trunk! In the winter it will shed its leaves, that when you know to stop watering. But don't worry, it will grow all it's long shiny leaves back in the spring. In optimum conditions this plant can grow up to 12" a year, eventually reaching 20ft tall!
Plant in a well draining cactus mix, and place in the sunniest place in your home. These plants like full sun, and warm conditions. In the winter months do not let your plant reach 50 degrees Fahrenheit or under. Only water when the soil is dry, and quit watering completely in the winter after all the leaves fall. Apply a balanced fertilizer in the spring to help encourage new leaf growth. If your soil mixture already has fertilizer incorporated then no need to add anymore.
