Cucurbita pepo, commonly called Cornfield Pumpkin Squash, is a sturdy winter squash traditionally planted with corn crops that produce flattened thin-skinned fruits that are excellent for carving or used as fall decoration. Sow 6-8 seeds in 12" diameter hills spaced 5-8' apart outdoors in a sunny location after the soil has warmed. Thin plants 3-4 per hill after germination.
